Professional Development Specialist
Melissa Rojas Contact email
My name is Melissa Rojas. I have worked as a child care giver for 20 years while raising four
boys and fostering over 50 children. Education has always been important and that is why
CAL-NET has been a wonderful experience for me, to be able to encourage caregivers to
continue on their education journey. I have also enjoyed mentoring and coaching people in
the child care field.
There are many opportunities for professional Development opportunities. The Lassen Child
and Family Resources offer several trainings a month for providers, exempt providers, center employees, and parents. We have a strong FASD, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Collaboration that offers many workshops and information for people that work with children. We also offer trainings for working with and recognizing Autistic children. Lassen College offers an AA degree in Early Education.

Classrooms of Excellence
The staff at Westwood is most appreciative of all the CAL-NET offerings, the books and manipulative have allowed them to provide the children with a well rounded preschool experience. The staff feels that it has enabled them to help the families to parent better in an economically depressed area. The children leave preschool with a strong literacy base.
